Public School District
A school bond campaign that was crystal clear on its purpose to invest in kids.
The Problem
Olathe Public Schools is one of the largest and highest-rated districts in Kansas, with more than 100 schools, support buildings and athletic/activity fields. But buildings age, technology changes, and the needs of students keep evolving. In 2026, the district needed to pass a bond election to fund physical improvements, expanded learning spaces, security upgrades, and new opportunities for students. The bond required no tax rate increase, but that distinction doesn’t matter if people don’t understand it. School bond campaigns are notoriously difficult. Voters are skeptical, the language is bureaucratic, and the ask feels abstract. The district needed a campaign that could cut through all of that and make the bond feel personal.
The Story
The district already had a tagline: “Their Future is Our Future.” We built on that foundation and gave the students a voice. The campaign story became “My Future Starts Now,” a line that reframes the bond from a facilities request into an investment in what’s already happening inside the district’s classrooms, gyms, libraries, and cafeterias. It connects the bond to the three campaign pillars: Investing in What’s Working (making sure students across the district have the same level of physical environment, programming, and opportunity), Building on Excellence (equipping educators, expanding academic programs, raising the bar on learning environments), and Enhancing Community (supporting student communities, strengthening the Olathe Advantage, attracting families and businesses to the area). Each pillar answers the same question from a different angle: what does a community “yes” actually do for a student?
The Approach
The campaign approach was built on a simple insight: the most persuasive case for a school bond isn’t a spreadsheet. It’s a student. By using student quotes and student-centric language, we helped staff, parents, and the public see how impactful the bond could be on the young people the district serves every day. The creative put kids front and center. “I Want to Do Everything.” “My Future as a Chef Starts Now.” “Knowledge is Power.” “It Feels Like the Whole City is Cheering For Me.” Each headline was written from a student’s perspective and tied back to one of the three pillars. The bond stops being about line items and starts being about a girl who wants to be a chef, a boy who lights up when his community shows up for him, a kid in the library who just wants access to more.
The Work
We delivered a full campaign playbook covering the campaign story, messaging framework, visual identity, content strategy, content voice, and activation tactics. The Bond 2026 badge gave the campaign a recognizable mark, built from the OPS primary brand palette so it could stay consistent across the different pillar colors. A dedicated landing page educated voters on what the bond funds, what it doesn’t, where the money comes from, and what happens if it doesn’t pass. A tri-fold brochure (produced in English and Spanish) served as a mailer and meeting handout. Social media ads carried the student-voice headlines across platforms. A campaign toolkit gave district staff and supporters the assets and language they needed to advocate consistently. And a content strategy mapped every piece of communication back to one of four categories: Bond Education, Investing in What’s Working, Building on Excellence, or Enhancing Community.
The campaign toolkit gave district staff and supporters the assets and language they needed to advocate consistently. The bond passed.

“
I have worked on a lot of bond referendums in my career, but Bond 2026 was the most concerning due to its size and complexity. Guild Collective’s process cut through the complexity and created a compelling story for our public. Their team was incredible to work with and shared our vision for doing what’s right for kids. My only regret is that I didn’t meet them earlier in my career.”
